About Us

The “Make It Happen” Fund was started in honor of Annalyse Kitzberger, who was only 5 when diagnosed with 2 life-threatening Bone Marrow Diseases; Aplastic Anemia and Paroxsymal Nocturnal Hemoglobinaria (PNH).

Aplastic Anemia is a non-contagious disease the occurs when the bone marrow stops making the amount of cells the body needs: red cells, which contain hemoglobin and deliver oxygen to all parts of the body; white cells, which help fight infections; and platelets, which help the blood clot when we bleed. In PNH many of the stem cells that remain are defective. Both are curable only by a Bone Marrow transplant. If you don’t have a “match” for a transplant, there is no cure.

Aplastic Anemia, PNH and MDS are considered “Orphan Diseases” and are grouped together with other “Orphan Diseases”  such as real orphans are crowded together to be more efficiently cared for. There is very little direct funding for research.

Our goal for the “Make It Happen” fund is to continue to raise funds directed solely towards research for Bone Marrow Disease at The Cleveland Clinic, under the direction of Dr. Jaroslaw Maciejewski, a leading expert on Bone Marrow Disease in the world! Our focus is to help develop better treatment options and ultimately, to achieve the cure! .
